DAHLONEGA, Ga. --- The Lees-McRae women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to North Georgia in its season opener Sunday afternoon in Dahlonega, Ga.
The Nighthawks (2-0) saw five players took at least two shots while the Bobcats' (0-1) goalie Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.) registered eight saves.
UNG's Cicely Taliferro notched the matches' first goal at the 13:51 mark following a throw in from Megan Marrow.
LMC junior transfer Mikaela Renfro (Orlando, Fla.) provided the equalizer 17:22 into the first half when she chipped a shot over Nighthawks goalie Mallory Sayre from 12 yards outside the box.
UNG's Jessi Vaverka connected on a header off the foot of Jordan Draughon before Taliferro and Marrow hooked up again before the conclusion of the first half to give the Nighthawks a 3-1 advantage.
UNG capped off the scoring with a goal at the 87:20 mark following a Jessica Dacey goal.
The Bobcats return to action Friday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Augustine, Fla. to battle Flagler.
