BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Junior Sarah Mahar tallied her third goal of the season and senior Kaitlyn Briggs had four saves while the Lees-McRae women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Mount Olive at Tate Field Saturday afternoon in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats (3-5-1, 2-1-1 Conference Carolinas) peppered the opposition with 16 second half shots while amassing 28 in the match. The Trojans (4-5-1-, 2-1-1) played aggressively throughout the day while being whistled for 25 fouls.
Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) broke a scoreless tie in the 55th minute after settling a pass from Mallory Overholt (Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada) and blasting a beautiful 20-yard shot over the top of UMO's Kelsey Cirrito.
Cirrito finished the match with nine saves.
The Trojans responded quickly with the equalizer 3:13 later when Nichole Poppe fed a cross into the box and Ellie Barnes chipped a shot over Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.).
Sophomore Cheyenne Warrick (Pikeville, N.C.) was one of four Bobcats to take four shots on the evening and missed by inches with 30 seconds remaining in the second half.
LMC returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 8 to host Limestone in a Conference Carolinas bout at 5 p.m. at Tate Field.
