Women's Soccer Drops Decision at Belmont Abbey, 2-1

BELMONT, N.C. --- Junior Erica Allen tallied her fourth goal of the season, matching the team-high, but the Lees-McRae women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field in Belmont, N.C.

The Crusaders (7-5-2, 6-2-0 CC) won their fifth consecutive match while Meghan Philp scored both goals. The Bobcats (4-8-1, 3-3-1) registered 16 shots while senior Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.) made seven saves.

Philp corralled a pass from Laura Shelton and was able to find an opening on the left side to put the Crusaders up in the 16th minute.

Allen (Norton, Ohio) provided the equalizer with 47 seconds remaining in the first from the right side.

Junior Mallory Overholt (Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada) fired off a shot at the 46:40 mark, but had it saved by BAC's Hannah Kohls.

Philp struck again, this time to the left corner, while Jillian Lang earned the assist at the 55:06 mark.

Junior Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomore Cheyenne Warrick (Pikeville, N.C.) had shots go wide right in the waning minutes of the second half.

Senior Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) led the Bobcats with four shots.

LMC will travel to North Greenville Wednesday, Oct. 22 for a CC tilt at 5 p.m. in Tigerville, S.C.
