BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to King (Tenn.) in Conference Carolinas action Tuesday evening at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Tornado (9-7, 6-4 CC) used a two-goal performance from Rachel Thorpe while winning their third straight after dropping the previous four. The Bobcats (5-10-1, 4-5-1) had eight different players record a shot.
Thorpe took a feed from Kendyl Baird and used one touch before finding the back of the net on the left side in the 28th minute.
King took a 2-0 advantage after a corner kick was deflected to the feet of Hulda Sigurdatrdottir, who powered a shot that hit the post then proceeded to curl in with one tick left on the clock in the first half.
Junior Mallory Overholt (Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada) put a shot on frame in the 52nd minute, but was stonewalled by Nicole Dagher.
Dagher earned the clean slate while making four saves.
Thorpe delivered her 14th goal of the season on a header following a Paula Doran feed into the box.
Senior Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.) made six saves on the evening.
