Warrick, Briggs and Thornton Earn Conference Carolinas All-Conference Accolades

HIGH POINT, N.C. --- A trio of Lees-McRae women's soccer players earned recognition on the Conference Carolinas All-Conference teams, the league announced Friday evening.

Sophomore Cheyenne Warrick (Pikeville, N.C.) was tabbed to the first-team all-conference while starting all 18 matches for the Bobcats. She tallied the match-winning goal in a 4-0 win against Emmanuel (Ga.) (Oct. 31) while tallying an assist against Pfeiffer (Sept. 27). The sophomore provided Coach Nick Whiting with consistent solid defensive play while LMC has posted four shutouts this season, including two in the last two matches. The defender has accumulated 21 shots on the season, with eight landing on frame. Warrick earned third-team all-conference merits as a freshman.

Senior Kaitlyn Briggs made her third appearance on an all-conference team while landing on the third-team this season. The Oviedo, Fla., native holds the school record for wins (35) and shutouts (23). She hasn't allowed a goal in last 217 minutes of action while LMC rides a two-match shutout streak into the Conference Carolinas semifinal against Pfeiffer Friday. Briggs sports a 1.47 goals against average while amassing a career-high 84 saves on the year.

Senior Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) earned third-team recognition, marking the third time in her storied career she has received all-conference accolades. Thornton leads the team in points with 16 while being tied for the most goals (five) and assists (six). The senior paced the Bobcats to a 2-1 win at North Greenville (Oct. 22) with a goal and an assist. Thornton accomplished the same feat against Limestone (Oct. 8). She has dished out an assist in three of the last five contests.

LMC battles No. 3 Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas Semifinal Friday at 8 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.

The winner will play No. 4 Belmont Abbey Sunday at 4 p.m. for the conference title.
