SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second time in seven days freshman Kiara Montenegro scored a pair of goals to lead the Lees-McRae College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory as the Bobcats knocked off Converse College Saturday. The victory improves LMC's record to 3-8-2 overall and 3-3-2 in Conference Carolinas action.
Montenegro got the scoring started just four minutes into the contest Saturday. The Orlando, Florida native took advantage of a misplay by the Valkyries in the box and found the net to give Lees-McRae a quick 1-0 lead. Much like its first goal of the match, the Bobcats scored their second goal off a misplay by Converse close to its own goal when Montenegro scored her second of the contest in the 34th minute.
Converse would get within one of the Bobcats in 66th minute when Nicole Doolittle scored off a penalty kick to make the score 2-1. Lees-McRae, however, held on for the one-goal victory over the Valkyries to seal its third win of the season.
In addition to her pair of goals, Montenegro also put two more shots on goal to account for four of the team's six shots on goal Saturday. Lauren Paulsen and Nikki Torres chipped in the other two shots on goal for Lees-McRae.
Alexis Feely picked up her third win of the season in net for the Bobcats Saturday. Feely made two saves in three chances as she picked up her 14th win in her career as a Bobcat, which is the tenth-most by a goalkeeper in program history.
The Bobcats will return to the pitch Monday for a non-conference tilt at UNC Pembroke. The contest, which will wrap up the non-conference schedule for LMC this season, is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
