BELMONT, N.C. – The sixth-seeded Lees-McRae College women's soccer team and the third-seeded Belmont Abbey College played to a 1-1 draw in 110 minutes of action in the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals Monday afternoon. In a penalty kick shootout to decide who would advance to the next round of the Conference Carolinas women's soccer tournament, the Bobcats won edged the Crusaders in the shootout, 4-2, to advance to the semifinal round of the tournament for the third time in the past four years.

The Crusaders did not waste much time in getting on the scoreboard first as they netted their lone goal of the game just one minute and 16 seconds into the match. After that goal though, LMC goalkeeper Alexis Feely stopped all 10 shots she faced over the next 109 minutes of play to force the game into the shootout.

Lees-McRae's goal came in 42nd minute of play when Riley Neese scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season to pull the Bobcats back even with the Crusaders, 1-1. Fellow sophomore Katie Jo Daniel chipped in an assist on Neese's goal.

Belmont Abbey kept the pressure on the Bobcats after they scored as it ended up outshooting LMC 21-8 on the match, including a 10-2 margin in the second half. However, Lees-McRae's defense did not allow the go-ahead goal to force overtime for the eighth time this season and then holding the Crusaders scoreless in the two overtime frames.

In the shootout, Kiara Montenegro and Neese netted goals, while Feely stopped Belmont Abbey's first two shots to put the pressure on the Crusaders. Katie Lysaght scored LMC's third goal in the shootout before BAC got two past Feely to keep its hopes alive. Freshman Tegan Dean, however, ended the shootout getting a shot past Crusader goalkeeper Katilyn Paul to give the Bobcats the win.

LMC will return to action Thursday when it takes on No. 2 seed Chowan University in the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The start time and location of that contest is still to be determined. Stay tuned to lmcbobcats.com and follow @LMCBobcats on twitter for updates as they become available.
