BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's soccer team will kick off its home schedule on Saturday with a Conference Carolinas matchup against Southern Wesleyan. Saturday's match is scheduled to get underway at 1:30 p.m.
Last Time Out – The Bobcats fell on the road to Francis Marion last Sunday in non-conference action by the score of 1-0. With the loss, Lees-McRae moves to 0-2-0 on the season.
Opening league play – Saturday's match against SWU will mark Lees-McRae's first Conference Carolinas match of the season. The Bobcats, who were picked to finish eighth in the league's preseason poll last month, have historically fared well against fellow league schools. Since joining the league, the Bobcats have posted a 145-105-15 record in conference play, which translates to a .547 winning percentage.
Sanborn with the saves – A bright spot for the team so far in this young season has been the play of goalkeeper Hope Sanborn. Sanborn currently ranks second among Conference Carolinas goalkeepers with 20 saves so far. Additionally, Sanborn ranks fourth in the league with a .833 save percentage.
About Southern Wesleyan – SWU will come to Banner Elk on Saturday looking to ride the momentum it gained on Wednesday as it picked up its first win of the season with a 5-0 triumph over Brewton Parker. SWU, which is 1-1-0 so far this fall, currently leads Conference Carolinas in scoring with seven goals as a team.
Series History vs. Southern Wesleyan – Lees-McRae and Southern Wesleyan have matched up a total of six times since 2007. Both teams have three victories to their credit. SWU has held the edge in the series lately winning the last two meetings.
