BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's soccer team will welcome Tusculum and Erskine to Tate Field for a pair of matches this week. The Bobcats will host the Pioneers on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before hosting league rival Erskine at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Last Time Out - Lees-McRae fell in its first home match of the season on Saturday to Southern Wesleyan by a score of 3-2. The loss pushes Lees-McRae's record to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference action.
Strong Start for Smith – Freshman Lianna Smith has had a strong start to her collegiate career. The Annandale, Virginia native netted a pair of goals against SWU last Saturday and has accounted for all three of the team's goals so far in 2019. Furthermore, Smith's three goals are tied for the most in the conference so far.
National Saves Note - Much like her predecessor Alexis Feely did, goalkeeper Hope Sanborn ranks near the top of the national leaderboard in terms of saves. Sanborn has made 33 saves so far in 2019, which paces Conference Carolinas and ranks fifth in the nation.
About the Opponents – Tusculum enters Wednesday's match with a 2-2-0 record on the season. The Pioneers own victories over Young Harris and Barry on the road but have dropped decisions to Bellarmine and Nova Southeastern. A strength for Tusculum so far this fall has been its balance as eight different players have at least one point to their credit.
Erskine comes into this week with a 1-1-0 record. The Flying Fleet, who will play SCAD-Savannah on Wednesday, will look to rebound after a 9-0 defeat at North Greenville last Saturday. Erskine does own a 1-0 win over Alabama-Huntsville earlier this season.
Series Rewind vs. Opponents – Historically, the Bobcats have fared well against their two opponents this week. Since 1990, Lees-McRae has faced Tusculum and Erskine a total of 41 times. The Bobcats are 8-5-0 against Tusculum, while sporting an 18-10-0 record against Erskine.
