BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College swimming programs will open their 2019-20 seasons this Friday at the Kingsport Invitational in Kingsport, Tennessee. The meet, which will be at the Kingsport Aquatic Center, will occur on both Friday and Saturday with the action beginning at 10 a.m. each day.
Preseason Poll Prediction – The league's preseason polls were released on Wednesday. The men's team was selected to finish fifth in the six-team league, while the women's team was picked to finish seventh out of seven league schools. The trio of Arsham Mirzaei, Christian Nishimura and John David McCray were picked as swimmers to watch for the men's team, while the group of Molly Layde, Kayla Fleming and Sophia Vanderpool were selected as swimmers to watch on the women's team.
Teams Competing – The Bobcats will get a good gauge of where they are to begin their second season this weekend as several teams from around the region will be in attendance. King, Chowan and Converse (Saturday only) will be in attendance from Conference Carolinas, while Carson-Newman, Mars Hill, Brenau, Catawba and Emory & Henry will compete as well.
Coach's Take - The format of the meet is a little different than usual," said LMC Head Coach Sean Weddell. "Typically an invitational is done over three to four days, with varying events each day. The Kingsport meet is only two days with three sessions. Though tough, it will give us a really good opportunity to see where we are right now. We have had some good swims in practices already and I think we can improve upon those swims even more this weekend. Additionally, the facility is fast which always a plus."
