CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College swimming programs closed out the three-day Fall Frenzy Invitational on a high note over the weekend with several standout performances. The women's team finished the weekend 13th out of 16 schools, while the men's team placed ninth among 13 institutions.
Overall, the Bobcats had a stellar weekend across the board. 24 of the 39 individual swims were personal bests for the given swimmers with the remaining 15 being significant drops in times. Lees-McRae also shown well in the relay races as six of the eight relays produced new school records.
"Three day competitions are long, especially with prelims and finals," said LMC Head Coach Sean Weddell. "However, these types of meets provide an opportunity to compete at a very high level and set your team up for some fast swims in preparation for the conference championships in February."
With their stellar swims over the weekend, a few different Bobcats are ranked nationally among NCAA Division II swimmers. Christian Nishimura leads the way ranking ninth in the 200 yard breastroke, while the men's 800m free relay is currently 20th.
"The goal of the meet this time of year is to provide a little rest and see what we can accomplish," said Weddell. "I am really looking forward to the second half of the season."
Lees-McRae will have a slight break for Thanksgiving before being back in action on December 7 with a tri-meet against Mars Hill and Milligan in Mars Hill.
