Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats dropped their first home match to the visiting Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters on Tuesday afternoon in Div II non-conference women's tennis action. The loss puts the Lady Bobcats at 0-2 on the season and the Railsplitters at 1-0.
Playing at #1 singles for the Lady Bobcats was freshman Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem, NC). She was defeated by LMU's Kathleen Rollet 6-2,6-3. Andrea Balaszova (Prague, Czech Republic) battled in the #2 contest taking her opponent to 7-6 in the second game after losing the first 6-3. Amanda Nascimento (Vitoria, Brazil) and Cameron Joyce (Lenoir, NC), playing #3 and #4, won their matches decisively, while Katie Hawkins (Old Fort, NC) fell to her opponent. #6 Atalie Teague's (Hickory, NC) match was not finished.
Doubles action saw the duo of Joyce/Vanard battle Redmond/Rollet to 8-6 before succumbing to the Railsplitters. The #2 doubles of Nascimento/Balaszova defeated their foes 8-2, while Hawkins/Teague fell 8-2 in the #3 spot.
The team will host Wingate at home on Friday, February 15. First serve is set for 3:00pm.
