Gaffney, SC--In Conference Carolinas women's tennis action Monday afternoon, the #36 Limestone Saints soundly defeated the visiting Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats, walking away with the 8-1 victory. The win improves the Saints record to 4-3 on the year and 2-0 in conference play while the Lady Bobcats fall to 5-4 (1-1).
Limestone set out to sweep the Lady Bobcats in the match, but were prevented from doing so by the outstanding play of freshman Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem. NC). Vanard, winning her sixth straight at#1 including a win over a Division I player, showed patience and perseverance as she battled through a 7-6(5), 4-6, 10-7 three set match. Cameron Joyce (Lenoir, NC) also put up a fight before falling 6-3, 7-5 in the five slot.
Joyce/Vanard also forced a lengthy match at number two doubles taking the match to 9-8(5) before the Saints snatched the win. In the end the Saints took all three points in doubles.
The Lady Bobcats will resume play March 15 when they host Coker College.
