Greeneville, TN--The visiting Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats were edged out 5-4 by the Tusculum College Pioneers in women's tennis action Friday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex. The Pioneers now sit at 11-2 while the Bobcats fall to 5-7 for the season with the loss.
Sophomore Cameron Joyce (Lenoir, NC) and freshman Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem, NC) took the only point in doubles action at No. 2 against Jenn Sparks/Amanda Pike with an 8-4 win. In the third flight, two-sport athlete Renee Roberson (Salisbury, NC) saw her first action of the spring season when she teamed up with Ashley Mayers (Miami, FL) in the third flight, falling 8-6 in a close contest. Amanda Nascimento (Vitoria, Brazil) and Andrea Balaszova (Prague, Czech Republic) fell 8-2.
In singles action, Vanard vanquished Jenn Sparks, not allowing a single game to go to the Pioneer to take her ninth victory in ten matches. Mayers, playing in the three slot, handled Pike 6-2, 6-3, and No. 5 Joyce defeated Blake Thompson 6-0, 6-4 while the Pioneers took wins at the two, four and six flights respectively to split with the Lady Bobcats in singles and take the 5-4 match win.
The Lady Bobcats will host Conference Carolinas foe Mt. Olive on March 29th. First serve is set for 12:00pm.
