Lady Bobcats Lose to Mt. Olive

Banner Elk, NC--Mt. Olive used a 2-1 doubles lead to their advantage Thursday afternoon, taking a 5-4 win over the Lady Bobcats in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action at the Baker Tennis Facility in Banner Elk, NC. Mt. Olive climbs to 7-2 in league play and 8-7 overall while Lees-McRae falls to 4-5 (9-10).

In doubles action, Cameron Joyce (Lenoir NC) and Amanda Nascimento (Vitoria, Brazil) lost a tight 9-7 match to Kristen Jones/Sofia Medeiros at No. 1 doubles. At the two slot, Ashley Mayers (Miami, FL)/Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem, NC) fell 8-1. The duo of Andrea Balaszova (Prague, Czech Republic) and Renee Roberson (Salisbury, NC) won the only doubles match for the Lady Bobcats by a score of 8-3.

The Lady Bobcats split with the Lady Trojans in singles action with Vanard claiming another conference victory at the one flight in singles action, allowing Monica Barone only one game in the 6-0, 6-1 match. With the win the freshman, who has played No. 1 for LMC all this year, improves to 6-2 in league play. Balaszova, playing at the three, had a 5-4 (ret.) win over Camila Kurebayashi, while Joyce recovered after losing the second set to take a 6-2, 3-6, (10-8) victory over Kristin Jones.

The Lady Trojans took wins over Mayers (No. 2), Nascimento (No. 4) and No. 6 Katie Hawkins (Old Fort, NC). Hawkins was able to take her match to three sets before succumbing 0-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The Lady Bobcats resume play Saturday, April 12 at 2:00pm when they host Barton College in a Conference Carolinas contest.
