Vanard Wins A-Flight Singles at Conference Carolinas Fall Tournament to Boost Lady Bobcats

SUMTER, S.C. -- Christine Vanard, a sophomore from Winston-Salem, N.C. won the A-Flight Singles Bracket in the Conference Carolinas Fall Tournament as the number one seed with a three set win (6-4, 0-6, 6-4) over second seed Patty Dominquez of Pfeiffer University.

Vanard beat three seed Britton Bignon of Erskine 6-1, 6-0 to advance on her way through the tournament bracket. Vanard did not lose a set until her second set loss in the final round of the tournament.

Last spring Vanard was named Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year and played No. 1 singles for the Lady Bobcats. She went 15-4 during the spring and ended the regular season with a five match winning streak. Other accomplishments for her include a midseason, eight match winning streak and her selection as Conference Carolinas Player of the Week for week six. She finished 7-2 in conference play, falling only to Conference Carolinas' Player of the Year Jennifer Gennaoui of Erskine College and to Margarita Aheychencko of Anderson University, another All-Conference First Team member.

Lady Bobcats' Jennifer Hawkins and Lyndsay Pegram lost to Erskine's Nikki Miller and Jourdan Smith (8-2) in the finals of the women's C-Flight Doubles Bracket to give the pair second place.
