Trojans sweep Bobcats, 9-0

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Mount Olive College women's tennis team swept both singles and doubles play on Friday afternoon en route to a 9-0 victory over Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas play.

Mount Olive's (14-3, 6-2 CC) duo of Molly Lentini and Pietra Viana opened the afternoon with a hard-fought 9-8 victory over Lees-McRae's (1-9, 1-6 CC) pairing of Lyndsay Peagram (Greensboro, N.C.) and Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada), before Marine Becker and Patricia Guedes defeated Kelsey Hiatt (Mt. Airy, N.C.) and Raven Harris (St. Pauls, N.C.), 8-0. Mount Olive was awarded the third doubles flight by default.

Becker kicked off singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Peagram, as Lentini defeated Wohlers, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 slot. Francesca Ceppi posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Hiatt in the third flight, before Viana claimed the No. 4 matchup against Harris. Mount Olive was awarded the fifth and sixth flights by default.

Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Saturday when the Bobcats host Barton College in conference play at 2 p.m.
