Bobcats best Tornado for 6-3 win

NEWLAND, N.C. --- Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) posted two wins, including a hard-fought doubles victory with partner Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada), to lead the Lees-McRae College women's tennis team to a 6-3 win against King College in Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday afternoon at Avery County High School.

Lees-McRae's (1-11, 1-6 CC) duo of Wohlers and Lutz kicked off the day with an 8-5 victory over King College's (0-12, 0-6 CC) tandem of Naomi Reyes and Mariana Hosomi, before Karissa King and Amanda Huffaker answered for the Tornado with an 8-6 win against Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) and Stevie Harrell (Morganton, N.C.) in the second flight. The Bobcats were awarded the third flight by default, giving Lees-McRae a 2-1 advantage.

Reyes evened the tally for King at No. 1 singles, defeating Wohlers, 6-3, 6-0. Lutz then posted a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 victory against Hosomi, as the Bobcats were awarded the third, fifth, and sixth flights by default, clinching the team win.

Lees-McRae returns to the court on Wednesday when the Bobcats travel to Tigerville, S.C. to take on North Greenville University in league play at 2 p.m.
