NEWLAND, N.C. --- Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) posted an impressive win in the second singles flight to pace the Lees-McRae College women's tennis team on Saturday afternoon, as Limestone College held on for an 8-1 win over the Bobcats in Conference Carolinas play at Avery County High School.
Limestone's (13-6, 8-1 CC) tandem of Paige Palinkas and Jessica Reyes Varela kicked off the afternoon with a hard-fought 8-6 victory against Lees-McRae's (1-14, 1-9 CC) duo of Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Lutz, as Segolene Ollivier and Julia Moreira defeated Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) and Stevie Harrell (Morganton, N.C.), 8-0.
Lauren Bolender and Ariel Svantesson posted an 8-1 victory over LeeAnn Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.) and Emily Jones (Leonardtown, Md.) in the third flight to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. After Palinkas defeated Wohlers, 6-2, 6-0 in the top singles matchup, Lutz answered for the Bobcats with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Varela in the second flight.
Ollivier won the third flight with a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Bost, as Bolender posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Harrell. Moreira defeated Sullivan, 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth flight, while Svantesson capped the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Jones.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Tuesday when the Bobcats host NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb University at Avery County High School at 2:30 p.m.
