Five Bobcats Find Win Column in Heartbreaker at Converse, 5-4

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Five different LMC women's tennis players earned a win, but LMC fell in a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Converse in Conference Carolinas action Tuesday afternoon in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Valkyries (3-12, 1-3 CC) gutted out three set victories at No. 1 and 2 singles while claiming an intense point at No. 3 doubles. The Bobcats (1-12, 0-6) hung tough and swiped wins at the No. 4-6 single slots.

Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Hillary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) put the Bobcats up early with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.

The Valkyries earned a crucial point when they eked out a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles.

Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) made short work of Samantha Sheffield at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-0.

Amanda Chapman (Sunderland, Md.) duplicated Bost' success with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.

Jordan Mayer (Timberlake, N.C.) continued her solid freshman campaign when she grinded out a 6-2, 7-6, win at No. 6 singles.

Wohlers dropped a three-set thriller against Marisa Esformes at No. 1 singles while Lutz suffered the same fate despite taking the first set in No. 2 singles play.

LMC will play its third match in four days when it welcomes Belmont Abbey to Banner Elk, N.C. Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
