BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's tennis program announced the signing of Kelly Blackburn (Mount Airy, N.C.) Tuesday afternoon. Blackburn is the first signee for the women's team as third-year Head Coach Don Marriott preps his squad for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

"Kelly Blackburn will immediately add healthy competition to our Lady Bobcat line-up," said Marriott. "She will make the current roster stronger as we compete for spots. Her strong academic success will also add to our 3.0 team GPA. I look forward to watching Kelly compete."

Blackburn comes to Banner Elk after playing at North Surry High School. The Mount Airy, N.C. native was a runner-up in her conference tennis tournament as a prep, while notching several high finishes in a variety of tournaments. Blackburn earned a first place nod at the Gaston Country Club Tournament, a third place finish at an event at William & Mary and was named a Statesville Country Club Annual Junior Futures Finalist. Additionally, Blackburn has spent the past 12 years under the tutelage of tennis coach George Kriek.
