BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College women's tennis team defeated Warren Wilson in its home opener 7-0 on Saturday (Feb. 9).
The Bobcats earned one point sweeping doubles before going on to sweep singles play. Sandy Allen and Nursharneem Shamsuddin earned a 6-1 win over Zosha Silverstein-Belden and Ana Risano at No. 1 doubles, before Zeynep Cakirer and Mackenzie Langmade defeated Autumn Hough and Ella Jane Nelson 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. Jaden Acklin and Dakota Tittle closed out doubles play with a 6-0 shutout of Jasmine Bender and Cecil Neill at No. 3.
Allen would win 6-1, 6-0 over Silverstein-Belden at No. 1 singles, before Shamsuddin defeated Kaitlyn Zinnecker 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Cakirer won at No. 3 over Hough 8-0, before Langmade blanked Bender 8-0 at No. 4. Rebecca Pierce earned an 8-1 win over Risano at No. 5, before Acklin defeated Nelson 8-2 at No. 6.
The Bobcats (2-2) are back in action next Saturday (Feb. 16) at Lee, with the match slated for a 12 p.m. start.
