BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's and women's tennis teams will play two non-league matches this week, first making up the previously-postponed match at Catawba on Tuesday (Feb. 26) at 2 p.m. then traveling to Averett on Friday (Mar. 1) for a 12 p.m. start.
About the Bobcats
Men - Lees-McRae enters the week at 4-2 overall. The Bobcats are a combined 7-9 in doubles play on the season, while also owning a combined 21-13 singles record. Miodrag Popovic and Fitzgerald Lomp have two doubles wins on the season, while four different doubles tandems have one win on the season. Matt Meluch leads singles play with a 5-1 record, while Popovic and Kirkham each have three singles wins on the season. Three other Bobcats have two singles wins each, while Brandon Caldwell also has one win.
Women - The Bobcats enter the week with a 3-3 overall record. Lees-McRae has put together a 9-8 combined doubles record as well as 14 singles wins on the season. Zeynep Cakirer and Mackenzie Langmade lead the doubles effort with three wins, while Sandy Allen and Nurhsarneem Shamsuddin have two doubles wins and four other doubles pairs each have one win on the season. Three different Bobcats each have three wins in singles play, while Allen and Rebecca Pierce each have two singles wins and Shamsuddin also has one.
About the Opponents
Catawba Men - The Indians enter the week at 3-2 overall. The team comes into the matchup with a 7-8 combined doubles record as well as an 18-12 singles record. Three different doubles pairs have recorded two wins each for the Indians on the year. Cason Hiers leads the team in singles play with five wins, while Ryan Reid and Adam Rocko each have four singles wins. Four different Indians have also recorded one win each in singles play.
Catawba Women - Catawba enters the week at 5-0. The Lady Indians have put together a combined 13-2 doubles record as well as a 27-3 singles record so far on the season. The team of Carolina Correia and Erisa Onchi as well as Lauren Laughton and Olivia Wooldridge each have three doubles wins on the season, while Sophie Hirsch and Una Pandurevic have two wins on the season. Five other doubles tandems each have one win on the season. Correia is the only Lady Indian with five singles wins on the year, while four others each have four singles wins and Emily Corcoran also has one singles win.
Averett Men - The Cougars enter the week at 1-1 overall. They have compiled a combined 13-11 doubles record and also 18 singles wins so far on the season. Henry Blanco and Thomas Woodcock lead the doubles effort with eight wins, while Simon Levinsson and Patrick Shields also have two wins in doubles play. Two other tandems each have one win in doubles play on the year. Abdugani Ganiev and Shields share the team lead in singles play with three wins each, while four others each have two singles wins on the season and another three each have one win.
Averett Women - The Cougars enter the week with a 1-0 record in dual matches so far this season, and also a combined 8-4 doubles record and a 17-7 singles record. Elanor Crane and Heidi Sarkkinen lead the doubles effort with five wins on the season, while Kristina Hedelt and Inka Zeilstra have two doubles wins and Ashley Thornton and Rainey Townsend have one doubles win. Sarkkinen leads the team in singles play with seven wins, while Crane and Hedelt each have three singles wins. Thornton also has two singles wins, while Townsend and Zeilstra each have one.
