Women's Tennis splits first day of Spring Break play

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Lees-McRae College women's tennis team split its two matches on the first day of Spring Break tournament play, defeating the University of Scranton 7-0 before falling to the United States Naval Academy 7-0 on Monday (Mar. 11).

Lees-McRae secured the one doubles point by sweeping doubles play, before going on to sweep all six singles matches.

Sandy Allen and Nursharneem Shamsuddin earned a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while Zeynep Cakirer and Mackenzie Langmade won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles. Rebecca Pierce and Jaden Acklin completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. Allen won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), before Shamsuddin earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Cakirer blanked her opponent at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0, before Langmade earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles. Pierce won at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-1, before Acklin secured the shutout with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

Navy was able to sweep doubles play for one point, before going on to sweep all six singles matches.

The Bobcats (5-5) are back in action tomorrow morning (Tuesday, Mar. 12) facing Southwestern College (Kan.) at 8 a.m., before taking on Mount Holyoke at 3:30 p.m.
