Bobcats grind out win over Wheaton College to end Spring Break play

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Lees-McRae College women's tennis team defeated Wheaton College (Ill.) in a hard-fought 4-3 match on Friday (Mar. 15) to end its Spring Break tournament play.

Lees-McRae won two out of three doubles matches to get the crucial doubles point, before winning three out of six singles matches for the victory. Sandy Allen and Nursharneem Shamsuddin captured an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, before Jaden Acklin and Rebecca Pierce earned an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles to secure the point. Shamsuddin would get thing started in singles play with a 1-6, 6-0, 10-6 win at No. 1. Allen would grind out a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 win at No. 3 singles, before Pierce earned a 1-6, 6-2, 10-5 win at No. 5 to help seal the victory. 

Lees-McRae (8-6) is back on the courts next Friday (Mar. 22) when they travel to Erskine to open Conference Carolinas play. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
