Bobcats knock off Converse with 4-3 win on Monday

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College women's tennis team defeated Converse 4-3 in Conference Carolinas action on Monday (Mar. 25).

Lees-McRae won two out of three doubles matches to secure one doubles point, before winning three out of six singles matches to get the victory.

Sandy Allen and Nursharneem Shamsuddin earned a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Steffi Kong and Pauline Hagen, while Rebecca Pierce and Jaden Acklin defeated Taylor Parrott and Martha Quattlebaum 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Allen would defeat Kong 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, before Zeynep Cakirer would win 7-5, 6-1 over Maria Belen Vendrell at No. 3 singles. Acklin would go on to defeat Quattlebaum in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 singles as the Bobcats picked up the key home win.

Lees-McRae (9-8, 1-2 Conference Carolinas) is back in action on Friday (Mar. 29) to host Belmont Abbey in league action. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
