BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College women's tennis team hosts Limestone College on Saturday (Apr. 20) for Senior Day to conclude the 2019 regular season.
About the Bobcats - Lees-McRae enters the matchup at 12-12 overall and 4-6 in Conference Carolinas, with a combined 38-32 doubles record as well as 59 singles wins. Sandy Allen and Nursharneem Shamsuddin lead the team with 15 doubles wins, while Jaden Acklin and Rebecca Pierce have also contributed nine wins in doubles play. Zeynep Cakirer and Mackenzie Langmade have won eight matches in doubles play, while Acklin has also won three doubles matches with Dakota Tittle. Two other doubles tandems have each posted one win so far on the year. Acklin leads the team in singles wins with 12, while Cakirer also has 11 wins in singles play. Allen and Pierce each have nine singles wins on the year, while Shamsuddin also has eight. Langmade has won seven singles matches, while Tittle has also posted one singles win on the season.
Senior Day - Prior to the match, Lees-McRae will honor its two seniors in Langmade and Pierce.
Langmade has won 17 singles matches in her Lees-McRae career, along with 25 doubles matches. Academically, she has been named to the Academic All-Conference Team once in her career, while also being a two-time selection to the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll. The Kailua Kona, Hawaii native is the daughter of Dan and Diane Langmade and will graduate with a degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing.
Pierce has won 17 singles matches in her career at Lees-McRae, along with 20 doubles wins. She is a two-time Academic All-Conference selection and has also been named to the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll for all four years. The Ferdinanina Beach, Fla. native is the daughter of Susan Thomas and will graduate with a degree in criminal justice as well as religious studies.
About Limestone - The Saints enter the week at 11-6 overall and 9-0 in Conference Carolinas, hosting Barton on Friday (Apr. 19) before coming to Banner Elk. The Saints have combined for a 26-22 doubles record, as well as a 55-40 singles record on the year. Laura Aholu and Camile Haus lead the Saints with 10 doubles wins, while Ana Chirila and Ruby Kubac also have eight wins in doubles play. Alexandra Dolfi and Felicitas Picinini have five wins in doubles play, while Alexis Ramirez and Allison Walsh also have one win in doubles play. Dolfi leads the team in singles play with 13 wins, while Chirila has won 11 matches in singles play. Haus has posted 10 singles wins, while five other Saints have also won in singles play this year.
Series History vs. Limestone - Since 2006, this will be the 17th meeting between Lees-McRae and Limestone in men's tennis. Limestone leads the series in that time 12-4.
