HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College freshman Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the first time this season, announced league officials Wednesday.
Thornton led the Bobcats to the team title at the Johnson City Invitational with three individual wins, including a victory in the 400-meter run with a school-record time of 59.74 seconds, besting the previous mark by more than three seconds. The freshman also won the 100-meter hurdles, while teaming with Auburn Lowe (Swain County, N.C.), Jessica McEnanney (Cary, N.C.), and Iesha Poindexter (Jetterville, Va.) to place first in the 4x400-meter relay, as the quartet posted a time of 4:14.34.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Friday, April 13 when the Bobcats travel to Boone, N.C. to participate in the Appalachian State University Invitational.
