LMC Track & Field Impresses at Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational

HICKORY, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae track and field teams combined for 28 top-eight finishes and a pair of school records fell while the squads participated at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational Saturday in Hickory, N.C.

Senior Malcolm Peeler (Raleigh, N.C.) set a school record and won the triple jump with a mark of 14.11 meters. He clipped Nazaire Saintine’s distance of 13.92 set April 21, 2012. Peeler would later claim second in the long jump with a distance of 6.69.

Sophomore Erin Bingham (Jefferson, N.C.) put herself in the record book with a blistering first place time of 14.76 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.

Kyandra Anderson (College Park, Ga.) earned two third-place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dash. She produced a time of 12.61 seconds in the 100 before needing 25.75 to finish the 200.

Freshman Gabriel Blackmon (College Park, Ga.) won the 400-meter dash with a solid time of 48.52 seconds. Teammate Christian Parker (Richmond, Va.) claimed second in the events, using a time of 49.69.

Blackmon and Parker finished second and seventh in the 200-meter dash with times of 22.35 and 22.97, respectively. Freshman Tyree Reed (Phenix City, Ala.) was third in the event after clocking a time of 22.49.

Reed impressed in the 100-meter dash after turning in a time of 11.18 seconds.

The quartet of Reed, Parker, Blackmon and Davante Scott (Hopkins, S.C.) earned a victory in the 4x400 relay, using a mark 3:22.28.

Sophomore Joshua Godwin (Pleasant Grove, N.C.) grabbed sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 37.43 meters before earning eighth in the discus with a heave of 33.29 meters.  Godwin finished third in the javelin with a distance of 42.33.

Sophomore Benjamin Wilson (Salisbury, N.C.) clamed seventh in the javelin with a chuck of 38.08 meters.

The duo of Kendall Isler (Winder, Ga.) and DeAndre Tillman (Charlotte, N.C.) finished third and fourth in the high jump, respectively. Isler cleared 1.90 meters while Tillman went for 1.80 meters.

Sophomore Cody McNeely (Salisbury, N.C.) put together an impressive day with a third-place finish in the 800-meter run, using a time of 1:59.12 before claiming sixth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:12.34.

The Bobcat due of Joshua Cady (Aiken, S.C.) and Christian Lloyd (Irmo, S.C.) finished second and third, respectively, in the pole vault with a mark of 3.95 meters.

LMC finished third as a team with 115 points while Limestone won the men’s side with 145 points.

On the women’s side, Makayla Boswell (Mocksville, N.C.) leapt to a fourth-place finish with a distance of 1.55 meters in the high jump.

Freshman Chloe Maddox (Helen, Ga.) cleared 2.30 meters in the pole vault and earned fifth.

Najah Underwood (Hendersonville, N.C.) continued her impressive freshman campaign with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 9.92 meters.

Dual-athlete Brenna Cripe (Panama City, Fla.) claimed eighth in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:06.74.

Sophomore Kayla Powell (Moyock, N.C.) grabbed eight in the discus with a throw of 30.59 meters. She earned sixth in the shot put with a mark of 10.66 meters.

Freshman Jennifer Warren (Piney Flats, Tenn.) completed the 800-meter run in 2:39.96 to finish sixth.

Jamie Colon (Acworth, Ga.) turned in a time of 22:01.42 in the 5000-meter run.

The Bobcats finished fifth with 46.50 points overall.

LMC travels to Rock Hill, S.C. to participate in the Winthrop Invitational March 28-29.
