CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College track and field programs closed out their first competition of the outdoor season Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina at the 49er Classic. Overall, the Bobcats had a trio of top 30 finishes, including one top 10 nod.
LMC's top 10 finish came in the men's 4x800m relay race. Lees-McRae finished ninth in the event with a time of 8:28.99 but it was not too far off the pace finishing under a minute behind the team that won the event in IUPUI (7:53.32).
Individually, the Bobcats were led by Kaitlyn Gearing. The senior competed in the triple jump, high jump and javelin Saturday. Gearing's best finish came in the triple jump with a 22nd place nod. Additionally, Gearing's triple jump mark matched a personal-best for her in that event.
