BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College track and field programs will compete at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Central, South Carolina. The meet will stretch across two days (April 27-28) on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University.
Last Time Out – The women's squad competed in the Duke Invitational last weekend. LMC was led on the weekend by the duo of Kaitlyn Gearing and Bayle Wood, who finished in the top 20 of their specific events. As for the men's team, it last competed two weeks ago at the Catamount Classic. During that meet, the Bobcats had four top five finishes.
Academic Achievement – LMC's track and field programs had seven of their student-athletes be named to the Academic All-Conference teams Wednesday afternoon by the league office. The men's team had five student-athletes recognized in Marcus Anderson, Lane Graves, Shawn Graves, Brett Page and Austin Thompson, while the women's squad had two members of its team recognized in Makayla Estep and Gearing.
Championship Rewind – In the 2017 edition of the conference championships, the men's and women's squads finished sixth and fifth, respectively. The last team title the Bobcats won during the outdoor season was in 2010 when the men's team took home the trophy. Meanwhile, the women's team is looking for its first ever team title.
