Wood and Gearing receive All-Region recognition by the USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS – Lees-McRae College track and field student-athletes Bayle Wood (Javelin Throw) and Kaitlyn Gearing (Heptathlon) were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) All-Region team the organization announced Monday.

Wood captured the lone conference championship for the Bobcats at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championship meet last month in the javelin throw. Wood set a new program record in the event with a toss of 39.35m breaking the previous record of 36.84m set by Rachelle Cleveland in 2014.

Gearing, meanwhile, narrowly missed out on qualifying for the NCAA National Outdoor Meet in the heptathlon. Despite not qualifying for the NCAA meet, Gearing did break the program record in the event with 4,386 points at the Falcon Finale and Multi-Last Chance meet last weekend.
