ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's and women's track and field teams opened their outdoor seasons at the Winthrop Invitational over the weekend (Mar. 22-23).
Men on Day One - Dylan Williams ran the 100-meter dash in 11.84 seconds, while Logan Welton finished in 12.12 seconds. Williams would go on to finish the 400-meter dash in 54.54 seconds. Nolan Capps also finished 35th in the 5,000-meter run in 16:23.15, while Brett Page ran the event in 18:39.19. Cooper Abernathy logged a 22nd-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.70 meters, while Blake Radder also threw a distance of 27.35 meters. Keith Holmes Jr. made his track and field debut with a mark of 5.88 meters in the long jump, while Welton also landed a jump of 5.20 meters. Abernathy led the way in the shot put with a throw of 11.61 meters, while Radder (10.46 meters) and Alex Heck (10.32 meters) also competed in the event.
Women on Day One - Megan Guess led the way for the ladies in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.18 seconds, while Brea Forbes finished right behind her in 14.33 seconds. Madison Cantrell also ran in the event, posting a time of 14.76 seconds. Brittney Augustin was the lone Bobcat to compete in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 1:02.34. Forbes was the lone Bobcat to compete in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 31.48 seconds. Bayle Wood led the way in the hammer throw with a mark of 36.75 meters, while Mya Roberts (33.96 meters) and Bridget Hambrook (28.06 meters) also competed in the event. Millie McCoy posted a team-best 4.62 meter mark in the long jump, while Mikali Smith (4.32 meters) also competed in the event. Sariah Dempaire-Salomon posted a team-best 11.15 meter mark in the shot put for a 25th-place finish, while Roberts placed 36th with a throw of 10.02 meters and Wood notched a throw of 9.64 meters. Cantrell and Natalie Donahue finished tied for 24th in the pole vault with a height of 2.85 meters.
Men on Day Two - Andrew Garrett Ybarra finished eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:03.31. Tristin Bertie took 11th in the 1,500-meter run in 4:10.53, while Anton Ledell finished 18th in 4:19.31. Joshua Hall also finished 15th in the 800-meter run in 1:59.40. Abernathy led the way in the discus throw with a 24th-place finish (38.67 meters), while Heck also notched a mark of 30.60 meters. Abernathy also finished ninth in the javelin throw with a distance of 45.25 meters.
Women on Day Two - Brianne Heard led the way in the 1,500-meter run with a 27th-place finish in 5:29.14, while Sarah Bowman (5:45.14) and Jordyn Halvorsen (5:45.17) finished back-to-back. Katherine Sandoval (6:06.87) and Maegan Prettyman (6:06.90) also finished back-to-back in the event. Delaney Colangelo (3:05.48) and Kaela Kelly (3:07.51) finished 33rd and 34th respectively in the 800-meter run. Wood posted a mark of 35.39 meters in the javelin throw for 13th place. Dempaire-Salomon also finished 21st in the discus throw with a mark of 37.48 meters.
Up Next - The teams are back in action next Saturday (Mar. 30) at the Wofford Relays in Spartanburg, S.C.
