BANNER ELK, N.C. - Freshman Britney Augustin will represent Lees-McRae College at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships beginning on Thursday (May 23) in Kingsville, Texas at Texas A&M University Kingsville. Augustin will compete in the 400-meter hurdles, which will run at 9:25 p.m. eastern. Live video will be available at www.ncaa.com.
Augustin will run in the third heat of the event, as one of just three freshmen in the overall event field.
Augustin originally matched a provisional national qualifying mark back on Apr. 27 at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while breaking her own school record in the event and winning the conference championship with a time of 1:01.92. At the Last Chance Qualifier back on May 12, she broke the school record for a third time this season and improved her provisional national qualifying mark to 1:00.59. Her provisional mark the second time around was 19th in the country in the event, therefore qualifying Augustin to compete at the national championships.
If Augustin finishes first or second in her heat or notches one of the two fastest times outside the top two of each heat, she will advance to the finals which will run Saturday (May 25) at 8:20 p.m. eastern.
