The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats volleyball team closed out their regular season with a 3-0, (30-22, 30-17, and 30-21), win over Mount Olive in a rematch of last year's Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Championship Saturday afternoon. Seniors Amanda Huffaker and Lacie Smith were honored prior to the match, marking the final home game for the pair of Preseason AVCA All Americans.
As they have for the past four years, Smith (pictured left) and Huffaker (pictured below) helped the Lady Bobcats cruise to the three game sweep, the team's fifteenth this season, with eleven and eight kills respectively. Daviana Metti and Caty Honey also got in the offense with twelve and eight themselves, while Dani Usedom and Smith took care of the back court with thirteen and ten digs apiece. Honey and Katie Legg took care of things for the Lady Bobcats up front with a solo block and five block assists each, sending the Lady Bobcats into next weekend's CVAC tournament on a nine game winning streak, and clinching the top seed.
Sam Mitchell paced Mount Olive with a match high 12 kills while Nikki Murphy posted the match high in digs with fourteen. Anna Luft contributed four kills and two service aces, and Jamie Werling added nineteen assists for the Lady Trojans who finish the season as the seventh seed in the CVAC tournament with an 8-12 conference record, (9-19 overall).
The Lady Bobcats nine game consecutive win streak, which includes six three game sweeps, is the longest under second year Head Coach Jamie Petrik, improving the Lady Bobcats to 26-7, (18-2 CVAC). The Lady Bobcats went on an eight game win streak prior to their current streak, tying last season's record.
Lees-McRae and Limestone finished the season with identical CVAC records to share the regular season title. The Lady Bobcats won the tie breaker for top seed with a better win percentage in conference matches.
Lees-McRae will play the winner of the Barton - Pfeiffer match up in quarterfinal action of the CVAC Tournament hosted at affiliate member Converse.
