The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats traveled south for the Florida Southern Classic to start the Labor Day Weekend, dropping their first two matches of the season, a pair of 3-0 sweeps to fall to 4-2, (1-0 Conference Carolinas).
The Lady Bobcats opened the weekend against St. Leo University, falling 30-14 , 30-20, and 30-18 to the Lions. Daviana Metti (Cordoba, Argentina) led the Lady Bobcats with seven kills while sophomore Trisha Reese (Hanover, PA) recorded 17 assists. A pair of freshmen, Kell Bogdan (Leawood, KS) and Lindsey Brant (Orlando, FL), paced the Lady Bobcats defensively registering five digs apiece.
Later that afternoon, the Lady Bobcats regrouped with a strong effort against Pittsburg State University, but once again fell short,30-26, 31-29, 30-25. Metti again led the Lady Bobcats attack with 12 kills, while Caty Honey (Geneva, IL) and Natalie Burns (Orlando, FL) chipped in with ten and eight kills respectively. Reese (pictured top left) recorded team highs in assists with 35 and in digs with 12 while also serving a pair of aces. Bogdan recorded nine digs and three aces while Metti and senior libero Dani Usedom (Geneval, IL) each picked up eight digs.
The Lady Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow with matches
against nationally ranked opponents for the first time this
season. Host Florida Southern, ranked fifth in the nation, will
provide the opposition at 11:00am, followed by #18 Nebraska-Omaha
