MOUNT OLIVE, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats traveled to Mount
Olive College Saturday afternoon, falling short in their come from
behind effort against the Lady Trojans, 3-2. The Conference
Carolinas win for Mount Olive evens their record at 8-8, improving
to 4-1 in conference play, while the Lady Bobcats drop their first
conference game of the season to stand at 5-1, (9-8 overall).
After taking game one 30-28, Mount Olive used a 7-0 run in game
two to rally from a 19-18 deficit and take a two-game lead. The
Lady Bobcats would battle back to take games three and four to
force the deciding fifth game. The home side would break open a
tightly contested 10-10 affair with a 5-1 run to take the game and
the match 15-11.
Sam Mitchell recorded 22 kills and Alicia Mote added a
career-high 18 kills to lead Mount Olive. Mote completed a
double-double with 14 digs and shared match-high honors with three
aces. Mallory Peavler led the Lady Trojans defensively with 22
digs, while Joanie Werling recorded 41 assists.
The Lady Bobcats attack was led by Daviana Metti (Cordoba,
Argentina) who recorded a match-high 23 kills to go with five
blocks. Natalie Burns (Orlando, FL) added 13 kills and seven
blocks, while Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, NV) established a new
career high for assists for the second consecutive weekend,
breaking last week's mark of 51 set against Limestone with 55
against the Lady Trojans.
The Lady Bobcats remain on the road for the weekend, traveling
to Barton College Sunday afternoon for a 1:00pm game.
