Lady Bobcats Roll Into NCAAs
BANNER ELK, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats move on to the NCAA Tournament Thursday afternoon at 2:30pm, taking on the Clarion University Golden Eagles in first round action. Clarion (27-5) enters the match as the number two seed in the Atlantic Region, while the Lady Bobcats (26-11) are seeded seventh.
The match up will be the fifth in NCAA Tournament play and second this season. Earlier this season the Golden Eagles topped the Lady Bobcats 3-1 at Williams Gymnasium. However, the Lady Bobcats hold a 3-1 edge in NCAA Tournament matches, earning wins in 2002 (3-2), 2003 (3-0), and 2004 (3-2).
The Bobcats enter the match coming of off their tenth straight tournament title, defeating Conference Carolinas rival Limestone 3-2 in the Championship game. First Team All Conference Carolinas Daviana Metti (Cordoba, Argentina) leads the offence with 4.06 kills per game with Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, NV) setting, (10 apg). Kell Bogdan (Leawood, KS) leads the way defensively, registering five games with 30 digs or more and is averaging 3.44 per game.
The Lady Bobcats enter the NCAA Tournament riding a season high 11 game win streak. The streak is also the longest under third year Head Coach Jamie Petrik, (pictured top left), who has guided the Lady Bobcats to two Regular Season Championships, three Conference Tournament Championships, and three NCAA Tournaments - including a program best Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2005.
