BANNER ELK, NC - Lees-McRae senior volleyball player Daviana Metti was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Atlantic All Region team this week, capping a two year career in which she helped guide the Lady Bobcats to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths.
Metti led the Conference Carolinas this season in kills with 592, averaging 4.2 per game on her way to being named First Team All Conference Carolinas. In this year's Conference Carolinas Tournament, Metti was named Tournament MVP, leading the Lady Bobcats to their tenth straight Conference Championship, winning a pair of five game marathons in the semifinal and championship matches.
Away from the court, Metti has also left an impact on the Lady Bobcats program. For the team's 'DIG FOR A CURE' fundraiser, Metti raised over a thousand dollars for Breast Cancer Awareness. Since transferring from Iowa Western Community College a year and a half ago, the Cordoba, Argentina native has participated in mission trips to three foreign countries.
"Daviana is an amazing role model for young women. She carries
a 4.0 GPA, puts others in front of herself, is a tremendous woman
of faith, and leads with humility," commented Head Coach Jamie
Petrik. "A famous sports quote says 'it is amazing what happens to
a team when no one takes the credit for winning.' Davi is so
humble; it is not about Davi on the volleyball court. She plays
for the Lord."
