Lady Bobcats Split Against Division I Competition
BANNER ELK, NC - The ten time defending Conference Carolinas Champion Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats stepped up their spring schedule playing in Appalachian State's Spring Tournament against Division I competition. The Lady Bobcats came away with a respectable 4-4 record at the tournament to conclude their spring competition.
As the lone Division II team present, the Lady Bobcats faced off against some stiff competition with eight returnees as well as graduating senior Daviana Metti; each team playing each other in two games to 25 points. The Lady Bobcats began the morning splitting with Radford University and then sweeping Gardner-Webb University. In afternoon action, the Lady Bobcats split their two games against Wofford College, before dropping two to Elon University.
"At times during the day, we looked very strong," commented Head Coach Jamie Petrik, who will begin his fourth season on the Lady Bobcats sidelines this fall with three Conference Carolinas Championships to his credit. "The ladies have trained hard this spring and to go five hundred against these teams was a good showing. While the play was solid from all teams, there certainly was not a time that our squad felt we were being dominated. We were in every game; that alone shows the dedication and work in the gym the last two months has paid off."
The Lady Bobcats will finish the spring season with team practices, lifting, and the second annual co-ed Triples Tournament with the Bobcats men's team. Petrik, Assistant Coach Megan Wargo and Metti will also make a service trip on behalf of Lees-McRae to Guatemala during the last two weeks of May.
