Lady Bobcats Add Two for 2009 Season

BANNER ELK, N.C. - Head women's volleyball coach Jamie Petrik has announced the signings of Megan Mitchell and Taylor Clendenin for the upcoming 2009 season.

Mitchell, a 5'9" setter from Douglas High School in Minden, Nev., was named Sierra League Player of Year during her senior year. During her senior season she led her team to a 34-2 overall record and a 14-0 record in league play. Her team won the Las Vegas High School Tournament, and she was named Tournament MVP. She has compiled 645 assists, 149 blocks, 106 kills, 93 digs and 91 service aces in her senior season.

"Megan has a solid chance to walk into the gym next fall and make an impact," Petrik said. "She will not only bring an excellent skill set with her but also the experience of playing for a championship team. Megan is prepared for college. She knows how to take care of the books and understands that volleyball is an added bonus to the overall college experience."

Clendenin, a middle blocker from North Iredell High School in Statesville, N.C., led her team to a 26-0 overall and a 78-0 record in sets played during her senior season. During her senior season, Clendenin had 202 kills and sported a .370 hitting percentage. She also recorded 40 service aces and picked up 88 digs.

"Taylor has a great arm swing," Petrik said. "When she gets a kill, everyone in the gym knows it. The interesting question for us will be where will Taylor play next fall? She could play left or right side for us, but she also could wind up in the middle. The experience of winning a state championship and playing competitive club ball has prepared Taylor for collegiate play."
