BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Wes Schneider, who spent the past season as assistant coach to both the men's and women's programs at Lees-McRae College, has been named head women's coach and will take the reigns of the Lady Bobcats effective immediately.
"We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to promote Wes to be our new head women's volleyball coach," Athletic Director Craig McPhail said.
In 2009-2010, Schneider was a key part in the Lady Bobcats run as the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament champions. On the men's side, Schneider's role led the Bobcats to a second place finish in the Conference Carolinas Inaugural Season and Tournament.
"Wes' character, firm beliefs in the growth of Lees-McRae and his attention to the development of the young women on our volleyball team puts us in a great position to continue the storied tradition of volleyball here in Banner Elk," McPhail said. "I am looking forward to seeing Wes step forward with this new responsibility and take our program to even higher heights."
Prior to Lees-McRae, Schneider spent two seasons under Jon Stevenson in 2007-2008 at Cal Poly. Before his stint at Cal Poly Schneider was the men's and women's head coach at Hope International University (NAIA). While at Hope International, his men's team set the school record for wins by going 15-7 and reaching a No. 7 in the final AVCA rankings in 2006. Prior to being the school's head coach, Schneider spent five seasons as the assistant coach.
Schneider started at Golden West Junior College as a player before transferring to Loyola Marymount. While at Loyola, he averaged 4.30 kills per game and had 205 digs in his first season. In his senior year he averaged 3.70 kills per game and had 196 digs.
Schneider resides in Banner Elk with his Wife, Nicole, and two daughters Mia and Allie.
