INDIANAPOLIS --- The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team is ranked eighth in the first edition of the NCAA Division II women's volleyball Southeast Region Poll, announced NCAA officials Wednesday.
Lees-McRae (20-8, 14-0 Conference Carolinas) has won 18 of its last 20 matches, opening league play with 14 straight victories to run its conference winning streak to 47 contests, which dates back to the 2009 season. The Bobcats also enter the week ranked fifth in the nation in aces per set (2.65), as Megan Mitchell (Minden, Nev.) and Sariah Suryadevara (Cincinnati, Ohio) are both listed among the top 20 in the individual aces leaders.
Armstrong Atlantic State University (26-0) sits atop the region, followed by Wingate University (23-0), Flagler College (18-4), Lincoln Memorial University (16-5), and Catawba College (16-6). Tusculum College (15-9) is sixth, followed by Carson-Newman College (11-10), Lees-McRae, Lenoir-Rhyne University (17-10), and University of South Carolina at Aiken (11-11).
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Friday when the Bobcats travel to Hartsville, S.C. to take on Coker College in conference play at 7 p.m.
