Mitchell nets program’s first Academic all-District honors

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College junior Megan Mitchell (Minden, Nev.) was named to the 2011 Capital One Academic all-District III Women's Volleyball team, presented by Capital One and selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced College officials on Thursday.

Mitchell becomes the first player in program history to earn academic all-district honors, garnering first team recognition. The junior setter is in the midst of another solid season for the Bobcats, entering Friday's Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinal round ranked first in the conference and ninth in the nation in service aces per set (0.62). Mitchell is also the program's all-time leader in assists (3,253), and ranks second in service aces (153).

A native of Minden, Nev., Mitchell earned all-Conference Carolinas First team honors this season for the second straight year, having led the conference in total assists (1,116) and assists per set (9.79) to date this fall. The three-time all-conference selection is also a tremendous student, sporting a 3.96 grade point average as a business administration major. Mitchell was also listed on the 2011 Conference Carolinas Spring Presidential Honor Roll, and is a member of Sigma Beta Delta and Alpha Chi.

Lees-McRae returns to the court on Friday when the Bobcats host King College in the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament at 6:30 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
