Weathersbee Notches Double-Double; Women's Volleyball Thrashes UVa.-Wise, 3-1

WISE, Va. --- Junior Courtney Weathersbee produced a solid double-double with 30 assists and 16 digs while the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team dominated UVa.-Wise, 25-19, 21-25, 25-15, 25-13, at the Prior Center Tuesday evening in Wise, Va.

The Bobcats (2-6) swung .316 on the night while Darian Parsons (Jenks, Okla.) had 15 assists and seven digs. The Cavaliers (0-9) remain winless despite four players having at least seven kills.

Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) currently sits seventh in Conference Carolinas with 240 assists and has four matches with 30 assists or more.

Kills from Lexi Zangari (Breckenridge, Colo.) and Ellissa Small (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) broke a nine-all tie in the opening frame while LMC produced a 13-3 run.

Consecutive kills from Rachel Cutshaw (Whitesburg, Tenn.) and a Cavalier service error wrapped up the set.

UVa.-Wise led by as many as eight, 21-13, before the Bobcats cut the deficit to three, 24-21.

Following a timeout, the Cavaliers Ciara Kain connected on one of her team-high 12 kills to tie it a set apiece.

The Bobcat offense caught fire in the fourth with a match-best clip of .517 while six different players registered a kill to break a 10-10 tie, sparking a 15-5 run.

The Cavaliers grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the fourth, but LMC retaliated with a 25-10 run to conclude play.

Junior Madison Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) impressed defensively with 19 digs and Madigan Gonzales (Ruidoso, N.M.) had a pair of solo blocks and eight kills.

Small finished with 11 kills.

LMC opens its home slate and CC play Friday, Sep. 16 against Converse at 7 p.m. in Banner Elk, N.C.
