BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Junior Rachel Cutshaw led a well-balanced attack with nine kills and Courtney Weathersbee delivered four aces while the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team cruised past Converse, 25-20, 25-21, 25-10, in a Conference Carolinas tilt in Williams Gymnasium Friday evening in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats (3-6, 1-0 CC) won their second consecutive match while the team swung at a .289 clip. The Valkyries (1-6, 0-2) had a pair of player's record double-digit kills.
Following a kill from Leslie Gonzalez, a well-timed timeout sparked a run that put LMC up 15-10.
Senior Haylee Leonard (Wallburg, N.C.), Cutshaw and Gonzales produced kills late while the Bobcats grabbed the first set after hitting .400.
The Valkyries took an early 5-1 lead in the second and maintained a four-point advantage, 10-6, following a Bobcat attack error.
Coach William Tatge's squad ripped off a 13-3 run to grab a 19-13 lead.
Zangari turned in a pair of kills to put the set away.
The Bobcats derailed Converse in the third and jumped out to an 8-0 lead.
Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) lit the fire with three aces and two assists.
Junior Johnaliz Cotté (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and freshman Logan Slusher (Hayes, Va.) pushed the lead to 19, 24-5, with kills.
Slusher ended the contest with her third kill on the evening.
Weathersbee dished out 19 assists while Zangari led the team with eight digs.
LMC welcomes Limestone Saturday, Sep. 17 at 2 p.m. for a CC match in Williams Gymnasium.
