WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball won the first set of its match against Winston-Salem State Tuesday evening, but the Rams came storming back to defeat the Bobcats, 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-22). The loss moves the Bobcats' record to 7-13 on the season.
Set 1 – LMC and WSSU were locked in a tight contest in Tuesday's opening set as the score was tied at 23. Following a timeout by the Bobcats, Lexi Zangari and Logan Slusher came through with one kill a piece to lift the Bobcats to a 25-23 victory.
Set 2 – In the second set the Rams used a couple sizable runs to even the match at 1-1. WSSU not only scored seven of the first nine points, but it also posted a 9-1 run to grow an 8-7 lead to an 18-8 advantage and eventually to a 25-13 triumph.
Set 3 – Zangari notched five of her 11 kills in the match in the third set but it wasn't enough as the Rams downed LMC, 25-20, in the third frame. The Bobcats were hurt by errors in the third as they committed 11 miscues combined between attack, service and setting errors.
Set 4 – The Bobcats were down by as little as one point as late as 15-14 in the fourth but the Rams held on for the 25-22 victory to seal the match. Rachel Cutshaw posted four kills in fourth to pace the Bobcats' offense.
Next up – LMC will continue on this four-match road swing Friday when they return to Conference Carolinas action against Pfeifer. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.
