MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Behind one of its best offensive performances of the season, the Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team recorded a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-19) sweep over Pfeiffer Friday evening in Conference Carolinas action. The win moves LMC's record to 8-13 overall and 4-6 in league play.
Set 1 – It seemed like in the opening set that everything the Bobcats touched turned into points. LMC only attempted 18 attacks in the frame, but recorded 11 kills on those 18 attempts with just one error. As a team the Bobcats hit .556 and three different players logged at least three kills in Rachel Cutshaw, Logan Slusher and Avalon Liscio.
Set 2 – The second set was far more competitive than the first as the two teams were locked in a 23-23 tie late in the frame. The Falcons, however, committed a costly service error to return serve to the Bobcats before Madigan Gonzales closed out the set with one of her four kills on the evening.
Set 3 – The first part of the third stanza was much like the second as the two teams were tied as late as 8-8. LMC found another gear following that tied score as it scored about three points to every tally for Pfeiffer to open a 24-15 lead. Pfeiffer rattled off four straight points, but it proved too late as the Bobcats closed the match out with a block from Slusher and Lexi Zangari, 25-19.
Next Up – For the second straight Saturday, the Bobcats will play a pair of matches. This time, however, those matches will be on the road. LMC will open the day with a match against Belmont Abbey at 2 p.m. followed by a 4 p.m. tilt against Augusta.
