MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team started strongly Friday as they won the first set in its match against Valdosta State, but ended up dropping a four-set decision to the Blazers (17-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-15).

Set 1 – After falling behind 2-0 early in the first frame, the Bobcats came storming back against Blazers eventually winning the stanza by eight points, 25-17. Lees-McRae used a balanced offense and a stellar defensive effort to vault past VSU. Six different players registered at least one kill in the first, while the Bobcat defense held the Blazers to a .079 hitting percentage in 38 attempts.

Set 2 – VSU found its groove offensively in the second as it hit .281 as a team with 13 kills in 32 attempts. Unfortunately for Lees-McRae, it could not keep up with the hot-hitting Blazers as it posted an attack percentage of -.062 in 32 attempts with six kills and eight errors. With the improved offense from Valdosta State, it went on to a 25-15 victory in the second to even the score at 1-1.

Set 3 – Both the Bobcats and Blazers went back-and-forth in the third set. VSU jumped out to a six-point lead late in the frame, 22-16. Lees-McRae, however, went on a 4-0 run to get the score to 22-20. The Blazers called a timeout to regroup and after the break they rattled off three straight points to take the third set, 25-20.

Set 4 – In what proved to be the final set of the afternoon, Valdosta State hit a match-high .385 on 26 attempts with half of those ending in kills. Behind that stellar offensive effort, the Blazers cruised to a 25-15 win in the fourth to finish off the four-set victory over the Bobcats.

Next Up – The Bobcats will return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday when they take on Anderson (S.C.) in Milledgeville. Following its matchup with the Trojans, Lees-McRae will face off against Georgia College at 1 p.m. to close out its first weekend action in the 2017 regular season.
