BANNER ELK, N.C. – After opening its 2018 campaign last weekend in South Carolina, the Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team will return to its home state of North Carolina this weekend for another non-conference tournament. LMC, which holds a 0-4 record this fall, will head to Pembroke, N.C. for a total of four matches against Lenoir-Rhyne and Fayetteville State on Friday before wrapping up the event with tilts against Shaw and Coker on Saturday.
Weekend Rewind – As was mentioned earlier, the Bobcats enter this week's action with a record of 0-4. Lees-McRae dropped three matches by 3-0 scores to Virginia Union, Coker and Francis Marion along with a five-set defeat against Winston-Salem State.
How to Follow – There will be no live video for this weekend's matches, but there will be live stats for all four contests. Those links can be found HERE.
No Sophomore Slump for Smirne – After totaling over 150 kills and digs as a freshman last season, Caitlyn Smirne is off to a similar pace in 2018. In the four matches last weekend, Smirne totaled a team-high 28 kills to go along with 25 digs.
Newcomers seeing Double – Two of Lees-McRae's newcomers had a few standout performances during their debut weekend in the Green and Gold. Megan Gallion picked up a double-double against Virginia Union with 30 assists and 17 digs. Erica Slinde, meanwhile, also picked up a double-double versus Winston-Salem State on Saturday with 19 assists and 10 digs.
About the Opponents – Two of LMC's four opponents this weekend have either played one match or none so far this fall. Lenoir-Rhyne is the squad that will be making its 2018 debut Friday against Lees-McRae. Fayetteville State, meanwhile, dropped a 3-0 decision to St. Andrews last Saturday in its regular season opener. Shaw, like the Bobcats, are still in search of its first win of the season after dropping four matches last weekend in Daytona Beach, Florida. Lastly, Coker enters this week's action with a mark of 3-1, which includes a 3-0 sweep of the Bobcats last weekend in Hartsville, South Carolina.
Histories vs. Opponents – There isn't a ton of previous history between the Bobcats and their next four opponents. Lees-McRae boasts a winning record all-time against Fayetteville State (3-2) and Coker (13-2), but it is below the .500 mark against Lenoir-Rhyne (3-6) and Shaw (0-1).
